Features.

Our easy to use interface has 4 primary tabs putting the important information at your fingertips whether you are an architect needing to know where the sun will be on a given day or a professional photographer planning their next photo shoot.

World Sun Clock display showing more detail than a simple day-night terminator as we colour code the golden hour and more. Rotate your iPhone or iPod to landscape orientation to get detailed timings on key events of the day.

Sun Azimuth and Elevation display, find exactly where the sun will be in the sky for any time of day.

Golden Hour display, the same great graph that our website users will be familiar with, this tab shows the altitude of the sun throughout the 24 hours of the current day with markers for Sunrise, Sunset and the Golden Hour. Explore any date of the year with the slider or new improved date picker and nudge dates up or down simply by tapping to the left or right.

Our location finder allows you to drill down through our comprehensive database of nearly 200,000 carefully selected locations from every country in the world. Every country or territory has a full colour flag and a fully indexed and searchable list of locations. For each location we display the latitude and longitude plus other useful information such as approximate population and Olsen Timezone. Now featuring access to the online geonames database plus location setting via the built in maps.

Features a complete years worth of the amazing NASA blue marble satellite images of earth - see how winter and summer transform our planet as the snow comes and goes as you change dates.

Calculations and Accuracy

For maximum accuracy and reliability, a tried and tested C++ library developed by astronomers performs the astronomical calculations. The library implements the high accuracy algorithms in the definitive reference book by Jan Meeus and has been in use for over 10 years.

Pros and cons of Golden Hour app for iPhone and iPad

Golden Hour app good for

Im a photographer and this is perfect for timing my sunrise and sunset shoots!! :)
When I first got this app, It would get stuck on a certain date and I couldnt do anything with it. Now, it works well and I rely on it more and more. Its especially useful when traveling.
This is great for at home or when you are traveling. I use it almost every day. I highly recommend this app for photographers! I have it on my iPod and iPad.
i use this app often, and when i do it always seems correct. im happy with mu purchase :)
Nice tool for landscape photographers. It is very helpful if you shoot at golden or blue hours. You can plan and save your time.
Im a pro photographer and rely on Golden Hour constantly for planning, scouting, and scheduling my photo shoots. The sun dial is especially useful when scoping out a location and seeing where the sun will be located throughout the remainder of the day. Its also ideal for planning the optimum time to photograph a location, as well.

Some bad moments

Unfortunately this full app crashes on startup. The free "lite" one, which is great, doesnt.
When you try to change date - app hangs and doesnt work anymore on iPhone 6
Well, there are a lot of problems with this. To start, the Golden Hour calculation isnt accurate. Kind of defeats the purpose. I also turned off the sound because I may use this around clients, and yet it still made noise. Theres also no option to take it out of military time, and its not easy to select a date and place in the future. I hate that I spent the money on this.
Wasted my money. Limited areas to go to. They dont even have my town which is in Florida where sunsets and sunrises are very important. Very lame. Dont buy. Tried to go to yellowstone n.p. But forget it even Jackson hole isnt in it. Lame lame lame!!!!!
With the high reviews and nice-at-glance screenshots, I expected something more. Unfortunatey, the user interface is very clunky. On the main "Golden Hour" screen, you set the date to view with a _slider_, of all things — good luck finding a specific day! The other screens are similarly unfunctional. Were this a free or even 99¢ app, I might be a little more charitable, but at the price, its really a disappointment.
Trying to select a date is impossible!!!! The slider is a ridiculous way to choose a date...its too sensitive and I cannot get it to stay on the date even if Im lucky enough to see the date I want. So disappointed!
